Children and young people have access to Grey Insight’s online support
Neurodevelopmental disorders are generally under-diagnosed and misunderstood. This can have a significant impact on individuals day to day functioning. One of the most common problems in children and young people is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a disorder of brain and chemical imbalance, which makes children inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive. Usually, this behaviour is labelled as “disruptive” in various settings.
Other signs and symptoms
Children and young people with ADHD are also reported as easily distracted and unable to concentrate on tasks and activities that are of no interest to them or do not provide immediate gratification. As a couples disorder ranging in severity of symptoms, some individuals may present with inattentiveness, impulsivity, hyperactivity, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) or conduct disorder (CD).
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. With one in 100 people on the autism spectrum, this is also a common disorder that affects people in different ways. Children, young people and adults living with autism may have their own strengths and weaknesses with common difficulties being with social interactions, communications, repetitive and restrictive behaviour.
